There is new Senior Seminar class being taught at WCA Secondary School this year. This idea has been discussed for several years as it is done at other schools. The goals of the class are as follows:
This class is designed to help transition from high school to adult life whether it is college, work, or the military. Topics covered will include: researching colleges that match their career choice, how to fill out a college application, searching for scholarships, working on Dollars for Scholars profiles, the financial aid process, resumes, cover letters, job interview skills, college prep 101, a real world university unit, paperwork for starting a job (w-4), how to do a 1040 EZ tax form and what the different tax forms are (w-2, 1099, etc.).
Students will also do a day of Job Shadowing with an area employer. The employers will go over their resume with them and do an actual mock job interview with them while giving the students feedback when they are done.
The class is being taught by Mr. Hunter.
