The West Central Area Knights traveled to Wheaton on Saturday for a volleyball tournament.
The Knights opened tournament play with a win in two sets against Ashby 25-13, 25-16. The Knights in that match had 18 kills, 42 digs, and served 90%.
Next up the Knights faced Sisseton. The Knights won in two sets with scores of 25-23, and 25-17. In this match up the girls had 26 kills (Morgan Woodle 9, Brianna Kreft 7), 47 digs and served 85%.
Lastly the girls were up against tough Wheaton team for the championship game which was a rematch from last year’s tournament where WCA placed 2nd. The girls were really hoping for a win and to come up on top, unfortunately the Knights fell to Wheaton 18-25, 15-25 to finish the day with a 2nd place victory. In this match the Knights struggled to put the ball away and only had 10 kills. Their serve percentage was also way down at 83%. Defensively, the lady Knights were able to dig a lot balls with Kaitlyn Sanstead earning 10 of theirr 40, but their block was unable to stop an aggressive Wheaton team.
“Overall we had a successful day and we continue to improve with every set we play,” noted Head Coach Amy Linn. “The girls are working hard and are continuing to improve. Next week we have two conference matches, Tuesday against Ortonville, and Thursday against CGB. It should be a fun week of volleyball.”
