The West Central Area/Ashby Knights opened their high school football season with a 14-6 win in Breckenridge on Friday night.
The Knights struck in the first quarter when quarterback Ross Anderson carried the ball over the goal line for the first TD and then hit Kaden Spindler for the two-point conversion to give the Knights an 8-0 lead.
The Cowboys scored a second quarter TD when Andrew Kram broke loose for a 27-yard run. The PAT attempt failed and WCA/Ashby held an 8-6 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Anderson and Spindler hooked up for a six yard touchdown pass, making it a 14-6 game and that's the way it stayed.
Anderson completed 10-of-18 for 100 yards and a touchdown, while running six times for 38 yards and a TD. Parker Clavin caught five balls for 72 yards and Brady Sabolik was the number one rusher with 67 yards on 19 carries. The Knights intercepted three passes in the game, one by Sabolik, one by Clavin and one by Vinny Finkelson.
