Warm temperatures and sun made for a pleasant section golf meet in Benson on Wednesday, May 31st. The wind was a force to be reckoned with but the players were thankful that it at least felt like spring.
Jessica St. Martin represented the WCA Knights after qualifying the previous Wednesday with a 95. The current format for the section tournament is a two day total in which the top team and the remaining five individuals qualify for the state tournament. Jessica had a great day, playing with great poise and a calmness that was to be envied. Often the nerves can get the best of you during tournament play, but Jessica did it the way every coach dreams; playing her own game, working hard for every hole and remembering that it is just another golf course. Jessica made it look pretty easy today and shot a very respectful 91 to end the two day tournament with a 186, 8 strokes away from playing in the state tournament. She gained valuable experience today as an eighth grader and had fun doing it. There is no doubt she will be back several times in the next four years.
