West Central Area beat Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 7-4 on Tuesday night in the first round of the Section 6A playoffs.
The Knights great defense held CGB scoreless the first 6 innings of the game. With a score of 7-0 in the 6th, WCA had only two errors going into the 7th inning. While CGB got their bats going in the 7th inning, WCA committed to having a strong 7th inning with no errors. They did a great job finishing the game playing their best.
“It was great to see our girls play seven solid innings of ball,” said Head Coach Vanessa McNamara. “We finished the game with only two errors and our heads in the game. I was also very proud to see the girls put 3 runs on the board right away and then have another rally inning in the 6th. This was such a huge change from last week.”
Hannah Anderson had a great night in the box getting a few singles. Izzy Wittbrodt also had her debut from a broken hand and got a single her only time at bat.
“This was a team win,” said McNamara. “It was a great way to start the playoffs and our girls were very happy to see such a large group of fans who were willing to sit in the on and off rain to watch us! Looking forward to Thursday.”
The Knights will play twice on Thursday in Morris with their first game against the Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Comets at 4:00pm. They will play either Brandon-Evansville or Ortonville in the 5:30pm game. The tournament is now a double elimination event, meaning teams must lose twice to be out of the tournament
