The WCA Boys golf team played their sub-section tournament on Wednesday, May 24th at the Benson Golf Club and are pleased to have two golfers, seniors Jackson Merrick and James Wiese, moving on to the Sectional Tournament on Wednesday, May 31st.
Four teams advanced led by Lac Qui Parle Valley, the defending section champions with a score of 328. Other teams advancing were BBE with a 351, Lakeview with a 354, and MACCRAY with a 361.
The Knights placed 8th out of the twelve teams with a 391.
Brady Madsen of MACCRAY who was the individual state runner-up last year won the individual honors with a 74. After the top four teams, the next ten individuals qualified to move on to next Wednesday's meet. Those players were Sawyer Hanson of Canby with an 82, Nolan Boerboom of Minneota with an 83, Tyler Lund of Dawson-Boyd with an 84, Britton Conroy of Ortonville 85, Jake Wagner of Canby 89, Nate Strong of Ortonville 91, Jackson Merrick-WCA, James Wiese-WCA, Carter Grimes-Border West, Tristan Sorenson-Minneota, and Reese Marks-Renville County West all shooting 92's.
Other scores for the Knights were Tyler Onstad 103, Max Duncan 104, and Alex Endreson 107.
Next Wednesday, the top team and only the next top 5 individuals move on to the state tournament on June 13th and 14th.
Knight Coach Kraig Hunter said, "We are very happy for both Jackson and James. They have both worked hard at their games over the years and both just missed last year. This is a good accomplishment for them to achieve in their senior year."
