The WCA boys' golfers posted 352 for their best score of the year taking 4th place out of the nine teams in the conference. The Knights started the year posting scores of 414, 397, 392, 406, and 402. A couple of weeks ago they shot a 385. Then last week they shot 357 at their home meet and then 356 (175 at Graceville and 181 at Wheaton) in the Border West two 9-hole meets.
Knight Coach Kraig Hunter said, "We are pleased with the improvement we have shown in the past few weeks. The boys are starting to figure some stuff out. Most of it is the mental part of golf and course managment as well as improvement in their short games. Being better at chipping and putting can really knock shots off your score."
"After the first meet, I remember telling them on the ride home, that our goal should be to finish 4th in the conference. The top three teams are so deep and talented and the five teams that finished 4th through 8th we knew would be close all year. We finished 8th in that meet and know we are beating those four other teams that finished in front of us consistently the past few weeks."
The team scores were as follows: OTC 326, Pillager 337, Ortonville 338, WCA 352, Rothsay 353, Underwood 360, Border West 379, Ashby 480, Long Prairie-Browerville - incomplete.
Brady Enneking of Pillager was the medalist with a 75. Other medal winners were Adam Young (78), Jackson Nyhus (80) and Drew Young (83) of OTC, Leo Zepeda (83) of Ortonville and Jackson Merrick (84) of WCA.
James Wiese (85), Kaden Spindler (91), Max Duncan (92), Tyler Onstad (98) and Alex Endreson (105) rounded out the scoring for West Central Area.
Border West was led by a 90 from Nelson Schmidt. Then came Carter Grimes (93), Matt Thielen (97), Isaac Ebnet (99), Nick Lupkes (100) and Braeden Lanter (101).
