The Brandon-Evansville baseball team recorded a 3-2 win over West Central Area on Thursday in Evansville.
“Both teams were strong on the mound today, but we were able to get the win as our pitchers allowed just five hits in the contest,” reported B-E Head Coach Brian Perleberg.
WCA took an early lead in the first inning. With two outs in the first inning Tanner Bennett drove in one run when he singled. The Chargers knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning when Gaven Jacobson singled with two outs.
B-E took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning. It was Jake Hintermeister's 2 run single off of Nathan Kaye, that ended up being the difference in the game.
Kevin Campbell earned the win for Brandon-Evansville. He threw six innings, allowing two runs, four hits, and striking out two. Tanner Bitzan recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Brandon-Evansville. Kaye took the loss for WCA. He pitched six innings, giving up three runs, ten hits, and striking out three.
“Once again we had to fight until the final out of the game against a quality WCA team,” said Coach Perleberg. “Our defense played well behind Campbell and Bitzan and we were able to get a couple clutch hits when we needed them.”
