The West Central Area Knights girls golf team had another beautiful golfing day on Thursday, May 4th at the Wheaton Golf Course. With temperatures nearing 70 and a gentle breeze, the Lady Knights were the only complete team today, taking home three medals with a team score of 212.
Katie Merrick was the low scorer for the lady Knights with a strong 50, earning a third place finish. Lexi Poyzer scored a mighty fine 52 for fifth place. Jessica St. Martin followed right behind with a 53 for sixth place. Rounding out the scoring were Libby Poyzer with a 57, Kate Wrolson with a 58 and Emily Currier with a 72.
“This was a solid round for all of our golfers,” reported Head Coach Kari Kreft. “Katie was solid in every part of the game today and held right in there with Karina Kafka, meet medalist. Jessica continues to play the long ball well and has become a consistent medal finisher. Lexi was very consistent with several 5s and 6s on her card. Although she found herself near the water often as the water meanders through much of the course, she was never in the water, an important feat on Wheaton's course. Libby had one gorgeous drive after another which was very fun to see as this has been a challenge for her as of late. Kate felt very secure with her chipping and had several nice drives throughout the day. We were super excited to have Emily with us today and felt she had a good round. We feel very fortunate that we got all three meets in this week and were excited that the weather and consistent golfing made the days fun for all of us. We will host our home meet on Tuesday, May 9th at Tipsinah, followed by our end of the year conference meet the next week and tournament play the following week.”
