The West Central Area lady Knights faced Wheaton on Friday as the two teams enjoyed a beautiful day for a ballgame thanks to the 18 miles per hour wind to keep them cool on the 80 degree day. The Knights prevailed in the contest by the final Score of 14-6.
Hailey Bennet pitched 6 innings for WCA, picking up two strike outs, giving up 5 hits and walking 10. Brianna Kreft came in to pitch the last inning, giving up two hits.
The Knights picked up 9 hits for the night. Hailey Hansen led the crew going 3/3 with two doubles and a single. Brianna Kreft and Morgan Sanstead also picked up doubles for WCA.
“It was great to see our kids hit the ball hard,” commented Head Coach Vanessa McNamara. “Hailey Hansen hit long balls each time which was great to see. One of her doubles rolled under the 220 fence, forcing her back to second on a ground rule double. Our catcher, Morgan Sanstead had an excellent night behind the plate. Her ability to stop balls in the dirt and not on target is incredible. She also had a huge game highlight when she sprawled out to make a huge diving catch to give us two outs with bases loaded. I was proud how well our girls jumped on this team. After a tough loss on Tuesday, we came out and attacked today. Our first at bat, we jumped on Wheaton with a 7-0 lead. We still have to work on keeping the momentum, but this quick start was great to see! This conference win put us in a good spot as we look to take on Ortonville, who was our first loss earlier in the season. Tonight, we played well, hit well and look forward to a beautiful weekend and coming back to play again in Barrett on Monday. We'd love to see lots of fans at that game.”
