The West Central Area Girls' Golf Team started their season in the right direction. With the sun shining and relatively little wind, the Knights felt good about how they played and had some results to be proud of. Katie Merrick placed 5th, earning a medal for her efforts. Katie had a solid round, hitting the ball well, getting herself out of some tricky situations and played pretty consistently, not really having any big holes to overcome. She laid up a beautiful shot in regulation on hole #17, just 2 inches from the hole, a birdie in her heart for sure. Jessica St. Martin played in the number two position and did us proud. She shot a 53 on the front, followed by a very consistently played 48 on the back. The par fours were her strength today. Kate Wrolson shot her personal best with a nice 55 on the front, followed by a 62 on the back for a 117. Emily Currier made her varsity debut with a consistent pair of 77s. Her motto for the day was, "Always take one swing at a time and do your best" and that is exactly what she did. "I felt good about our first meet. Everyone had positive things to say about their playing and on their own, have already set goals, to better their game throughout the season." We were missing Libby and Lexi Poyzer as they are out of the state until the end of the week. We look forward to having a complete team of six for next week and are excited to see what we can accomplish this season.
Team scores for the girls were Ortonville 394, OTC 416, WCA 452, and Rothsay 478.
