Casey Stokesbary is in his first year leading the West Central Area baseball team and his Knights will have a tough act to follow after last year's 14-10 run which resulted in a runner-up finish in the Section 6A playoffs. It was the furthest a WCA team had progressed in the playoffs in over twenty years.
"The returning group is young but have been playing together for many years, starting in summer rec and PRBA leading to their varsity experience," said Stokesbary. "They will need to rely on the familiarity and trust of playing with each other to continue to be successful. The kids have the love of the game and are willing to do what it takes to get the job done."
Caden Fernholz (SS, 2B, C) is the only senior returning from last year. He is joined by returning juniors Ross Anderson (C), Nathan Kaye (OF, P) and Mason Nibbe (IF, OF, C).
Varsity prospects include juniors Trysten Gapp (OF, IF, P) and Sam Gullickson (IF), sophomores Isaiah Sykora (2B), Tanner Bennett (IF, OF, P) and Teigen Moritz (IF, P), freshmen Blake Koloski (IF, P) and Kaleb Getz (C, IF), and eighth-grader Grant Beukens (IF, P).
"This year's team will be young but competitive," said Stokesbary. "With only one returning senior we will need the young guys to step into some big roles."
Stokesbary will be assisted by Andy Koloski and Brandon Gruchow.
