The West Central Area Lady Knights Softball Team improved to 4-0 after they took the lead for good in the fourth inning to capture a back-and-forth game from Swanville by a 15-5 score on Thursday.
Swanville captured the lead in the first inning. The game was tied at the end of the fourth with West Central Area Knights batting in the bottom of the fourth when there was an error, scoring one run.
West Central Area Knights secured the victory thanks to ten runs in the fourth inning. The girls got their bats going and scored on triples by Hailey Bennett and Morgan Sanstead, doubles by Hailey Hansen and Kaitlyn Sanstead, and a single by Brianna Kreft.
After Swanville scored one run in the top of the fifth, WCA answered with one of their own. Needing only one run to end the game early in the 5th, the Knights loaded the bases and got their final run driven home when Kaleigh Anderson singled.
Kreft earned the win for West Central Area Knights Varsity. She went five innings, allowing five runs, four hits, and striking out six.
West Central Area Knights Varsity collected 15 hits. Morgan and Kaitlyn Sanstead, Hailey Bennett, Brianna Kreft and Hailey Hansen each collected multiple hits.
“Overall, this was a good game for the girls,” stated Head Coach Vanessa McNamara. “We were definitely tired from so many games this week and that showed in the beginning of the game, but the girls dug deep and pulled out their W. Once we are able to get a practice in, we have a few things to tighten up. We can’t expect to keep winning games when we are making more than five errors in a five inning game. Having that said, our girls have earned their 4 game winning streak by never giving up in the box. When they get their bats going, they are a fun team to watch.”
The Knights are home again on Friday for their fourth game this week. Game is at 5:00pm against CGB.
