The West Central Area Knights were clicking in all phases of the game on Thursday night as they jumped out to a 46-5 lead at halftime versus the Upsala Cardinals, leading to an 80-39 victory.
"Upsala runs an offense with a lot of penetration and a lot of kick outs for 3-pointers. We were able to contain the dribble and contest shots and hold them to one field goal in the first half. We shared the ball very well on offense with most baskets coming off unselfish assists and we only turned the ball over twice in the first half," said Knight Coach Kraig Hunter.
Hunter added, "We were able to play all 13 players extensively in the second half where the unselfish play continued." Both teams scored 34 points apiece in the second half making the final score 80-39.
The Knights hit 30-58 shots for 52% including 10-26 three pointers and 10-16 free throws. Upsala was only able to manage 30% shooting against the Knights defense going 14-46 and 7-27 on three's. They made 4-6 free throws.
The Knights had a 37-27 edge on the boards and only turned the ball over 7 times compared to 17 for the Cardinals.
Leaders for the Knights were Aaron Wiese with 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists; Logan Paulson 18 points and 5 rebounds; Jake Combs 15 points and 2 rebounds; Brady Sabolik 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals; Ross Anderson 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists; Dawson Staples 4 points and 3 rebounds; Jacob Bright 3 points, Jack Nelson 2 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists; Logan Nadgwick 2 points. Alex Endreson contributed 5 rebounds and 2 assists, Nathan Kaye had 3 rebounds and 2 assists, Caden Fernholz contributed 5 assists, and Colton Wutzke had 1 rebound and 1 assist.
Scoring for Upsala were Jorgan Kiley 8, Alex Thieschafer 7, Riley Johnson 7, Myron Ripplinger 6, Bennett Westrich 6, Parker Barth 3, and Dylan VanVienen 2.
