The West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville wrestling team traveled to New York Mills on Thursday night and lost a dual meet to the Eagles by the score of 57-12.
"The boys put together another tough fought battle tonight," said Head Coach Brandon Gruchow of the Knights. "I thought we competed really well and wrestled with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. We're excited that they came out so strong against a tough section opponent. We have to continue improving, but there was a lot to be excited about tonight. Our light weights started it off right and it seems when they can come out dominating it provides a boost for the rest of our guys. We had a couple of our less experienced wrestlers step in to take some forfeits, which is a good reward for their hard work they have been putting in and it saves a match towards their match count."
Gruchow continued, "I was impressed with Hunter Mickelsen and Wyatt Olson's ability to keep the score down to a decision in their matches and proved they know how to wrestle for the team. All in all it was a great team effort tonight. As coaches, we were proud to be in their corner. There were a lot of Junior High/Junior Varsity matches tonight, which is great for our guys. They also wrestled well tonight, going 9-8 in their dual matches."
Ashton Danner, Reubens Swanson, Colton Lindquist, Deklin Goeden, Austin Mattson, Aiden Winter, Chase Veldhouse and Alex Butcher all earned a win for the Knights.
