The West Central Area Knights withstood some potent 3-point shooting from the Underwood Rockets to hold on to win 62-53 Tuesday night in Underwood. The Knights would take an 11 point lead twice only to have Underwood come back with some outside shooting to cut the lead to five on several occasions.
Knight coach Kraig Hunter said, "I've been around long enough to know after playing a team only a few days before and then going to their home court that they would be ready to play well and that it would be a tough road win. We had to play well to beat them. We finished 22-40 shots for 55% to withstand their 23-46 shooting for 50%. Our post players Logan Paulson, Jake Combs, and Dawson Staples went 15-20 from the field between the three of them to lead us and our guards had a lot of assists doing a good job getting them the ball."
"We locked down on the Rockets Brodey Rocholl with some pretty good defense and he still went 11-17 from the field including three 3's for 25 points. Camen Andrews also hit 3 of 5 threes and Jordan Gedde knocked down another one late in the game for them," added Hunter.
The Knights hit 5-15 threes and the Rockets 7-19. The Knights had a big advantage at the line hitting 13-17 free throws to 0-1 for the Rockets. "That is the best we shot from the line this year and it was important in this game," added Hunter. "That's the second game in a row we've hit them at the end of the game."
The Knights took good care of the ball only turning it over 9 times to 13 for Underwood. The Rockets held a slight 25-23 edge on the boards.
Leaders for the Knights were Logan Paulson 21 points and 5 rebounds, Brady Sabolik 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists, Jake Combs 10 points and 5 rebounds, Aaron Wiese 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, Dawson Staples 4 points, Nathan Kaye 3 points, 1 assist, and 1 steal, Ross Anderson 2 points, 5 rebounds and led the team with 7 assists, and Jack Nelson added 1 point.
The Rockets were led by Rocholl with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists; Camen Andrews 11 points, Jordan Gedde 9 points, and Max Scott 8 points.
“This was a strong team performance put on the court tonight even though it ended up with a loss for us,” said Underwood Head Coach Jesse Arbuckle. “West Central Area is a very difficult team to score against and I was proud of the shots the guys hit tonight. Brodey put in a great all around performance for us tonight and Camen also had a solid performance on the court.”
