The West Central Area Lady Knights suffered a 61-52 loss to Long Prairie/Grey Eagle on a solid offensive performance Tuesday night.
LPGE was down 11-4 to begin the game and then went on a 12-0 run, and led by 5. At halftime the Lady Knights would trail 27-23. They came out going back and forth with the Thunder in the second half. With ten and a half minutes to play in the game the score was 40-39 in favor of the Thunder. The Thunder pulled to a 50-45 lead and never looked back. Then to try and conserve time the Lady Knights began to foul and the Thunder hit free-throws.
“Tonight the Thunder had a player that was virtually un-guardable and she went 12-18 from the field and was 4-5 from beyond the arch,” said Head Coach Eric Schoenbauer. “When someone is in that kind of a groove we need to continue to make life difficult for them as a team. The good thing about tonight is we proved that we can play with solid teams, but we need to buy in completely to what the team is trying to accomplish. This is how we will start seeing scores that end in our favor and truly walk away satisfied.”
The Knights only had 17 turnovers and they shot just over 38% from the field. The Knights were led by Taylin Schleicher with 11 points, Ella Van Kempen had 10 points, Kaitlyn Hansen dropped in 6 points, Brianna Kreft and Morgan Sanstead each had 5 points, and added 5 rebounds and 2 rebounds, respectively. Hailey Bennett and Lexi Bright both scored 4 points, and had 3 and 2 steals, respectively. Morgan Woodle had 2 points, a steal, and an assist. Katie Merrick had 2 points and 2 rebounds. Amanda Dreschel had 2 points, 4 rebounds, and an assist. Kaleigh Anderson scored 1 point. Dawn Anderson had 3 assists and a steal.
The Lady Knights will have their next game on January 28 in Pelican Rapids at 6pm.
