The West Central Area Lady Knights traveled to Wheaton on Thursday night and took on the Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Warriors. The game was back and forth throughout most of the first half, and the score was 18 - 18 with just over six minutes to play in the half. Then the Warriors went on a run and led 35 – 20 at the break. The Warriors finished off the Lady Knights 65 - 42.
The Lady Knights were led by Ella Van Kempen with 16 points and she added 9 rebounds, 3 blocks and a steal. Taylin Schleicher had a strong night with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. Kaitlyn Hansen had 3 points and a rebound. Brianna Kreft, Dawn Anderson, Katie Merrick, Morgan Woodle, and Amanda Drechsel all scored 2 points. Morgan Sanstead had a point, 3 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Merrick added 6 rebounds and Anderson added 3 steals. Hailey Bennett contributed 2 rebounds and 3 assistd on the night.
“Tonight we showed ourselves how good we can be in spurts. Now if we continue to build on the successes we had tonight and turn it into a full 36 minutes of those successes we will reach our potential,” coach Eric Schoenbauer stated. He concluded with, “I hope our girls are learning what we can be if we continue to push ourselves and strive for success.”
The Lady Knights will be in action this Saturday in Morris for a rematch of the kickoff tournament championship in Morris.
