Rally Falls Short as Lady Knights Fall to Henning
The West Central Area Lady Knights battled the Henning Hornets Tuesday night. The Hornets closed out the first half on an 18-6 run and led 28 to 14 at halftime. The game in the second half was fast paced up and down the floor. It was a 31-30 game in the second half, but the Lady Knights could not overcome the 12 point lead the Hornets created to finish out the first half. The final score was 59-44 in favor of the Hornets.
The Lady Knights were led by Kaitlyn Hansen who scored 12 points, 4 steals and a rebound. Taylin Schleicher scored 9 points, had 4 steals, and 3 rebounds. Ella Van Kempen had 8 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. Hailey Bennett had 6 points, 4 steals, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds. Morgan Sanstead had 5 points, 5 rebounds, and a steal. Brianna Kreft had 2 points, 3 rebounds, and an assist. Morgan Woodle had a point, 5 rebounds, a steal and an assist. Katie Merrick had a point, 4 rebounds, and an assist. Dawn Anderson had a steal and a rebound. Lexi Bright had an assist and 2 steals. Kaleigh Anderson and Kailtyn Sanstead had a steal. Charlette Kohman had a rebound.
Coach Eric Schoenbauer said, “This was a positive game in many aspects, but the main reason it was good was we fought the whole night. We gave ourselves chances by cutting the lead to 13 when we were down by 20. We just need to continue to recognize how to play fast while being under control and still making the easy plays. We do not always need a highlight play, but instead we just need to continue to make the right plays.”
The Lady Knights travel to Wheaton-Herman-Norcross on Thursday night for a section and conference match up.
