Battle Lake Lions Invitational
The WCA Knights spoke in Battle Lake on a beautiful sunny day in Battle Lake on March 4th, finishing in the top half among schools in the area. “Rankings and speaker points are really getting competitive as speakers around the state near the last month of the season, “said coach Kreft. “A rank of 1 and speaker points of 100 are no longer a rarity which is really saying something, since that essentially is saying the speaker who earns this, is performing perfectly in that round according to their judge.”
Top speakers for the Knights included; Hannah Anderson at second in great speeches, Brianna Kreft earning second place honors in extemporaneous reading, Solomon Sewell receiving a third place finish in discussion and fifth place in original oratory, and Ethan Olson finishing in second in original oratory after losing a tie breaker in head to head competition to the first place finisher. Also impressing judges with superior speaking ribbons were Crystal Exe (ER) and Emily Engen (storytelling) earning blue ribbons and Max Duncan (humorous) and Nathan Lewis (poetry) earning red ribbons.
The WCA speech team looks forward to two meets this next week, Hancock on Tuesday and CACGB on Saturday.
