Tiger Speech Invitational
The West Central Area Speech Team devoted another Saturday to perfecting their skills. Saturday, February 25th was a competitive and tiring day with three rounds and a final, but again the Knights had a strong contingent of final round speakers. Solomon Sewell was a champion in two categories, winning both discussion and original oratory. Hannah Anderson performed well, earning a fourth place ribbon for her great speech selection. We had another strong showing in the area of poetry, with Nathan Lewis taking third, Kristin Gilberston taking fourth and Timothy Ruud earning a superior speaking ribbon. Ethan Olson finished sixth in original oratory. Matthew Poyzer finished fourth in drama. Brianna Kreft earned a sixth place finish in extemporaneous reading.
“This is the time of year when it gets very tiring as a competitor. These kids have now worked with their piece and category for seven weeks, with hopes that they will still be working on it through the tournament season, with the ultimate goal, being the state tournament on April 22nd. They have to dig in and find the passion they originally had in their selections and perfect them in a field of very dedicated and talented speakers. Each student continually amazes me with their dedication and “can do” attitude.”
