Morris Area Speech Meet
The West Central Area Speech Team was small in numbers on Saturday, February 18th, but long on talent. With many activities pulling our students in different directions and some out to illness, we brought only 15 speakers to Morris. The competition was again amazing and our students rose to the challenge with over half of them qualifying for the final round and several others coming very close. Hannah Anderson placed third in great speeches. Rose Borash finished in fourth in informative speaking, a personal best for her. Emily Engen was eighth in the area of storytelling. Brianna Kreft placed third in extemporaneous reading. Nathan Lewis was second in poetry. Matt Poyzer was sixth in drama. Solomon Sewell was double entered and placed second in original oratory and first in discussion.
Coach Kreft shared the excitement she feels in correlation with this year’s team. “It is fun to see the championship culture our speakers are forming, expecting the best of themselves and their teammates and setting lofting goals that they are meeting. As speakers, we all start at different levels, but whether novice or experienced, new to their category or veterans of their category, these students work hard to improve each week and have made amazing progress already this year.”
