Foster Grandparents Go to School, Too!
Kids aren’t the only ones going back to school! Throughout central Minnesota, Foster Grandparents are eagerly anticipating another fun-filled, rewarding school year as they look forward to serving in local schools.
The Central Minnesota Foster Grandparent Program is looking for local adults, age 55+ to become part of this exciting, intergenerational program. If you know someone who would like a little extra spending money every month, enjoys working with children and has a little time to spare, this could be a wonderful opportunity for them.
Foster Grandparents are under the direction of classroom teachers and staff, and they help those students that need a little extra attention so they can succeed. Activities can include reading with students, working on math assignments, completing art projects, and much more.
Foster Grandparents are positive role models who demonstrate caring for others by volunteering in local schools. The intergenerational relationships that Foster Grandparents have with the children they serve is unique. These relationships can be long-term and last months and even years as they build confidence and self-esteem in the children.
The Foster Grandparent Program offers many benefits to those who participate, including a tax-free hourly reimbursement, transportation reimbursement for mileage or for using a city bus, orientation, on-going training, health benefits and more. Please encourage older adults you know to consider volunteering in our school as a Foster Grandparent.
