The WCA Speech team competed at section speech on Saturday, April 2nd. It was a successful day, ending with two competitors qualifying for the state speech meet to be held in Lakeville on Friday, April 15th! Highlights included; having four qualifiers in the final round and solid rounds from all speakers. Nathan Lewis was unable to participate due to illness, a sad circumstance as he has been a strong speaker in poetry throughout the year. Solomon Sewell just missed the final round, placing seventh. Hannah Anderson had three consistent rounds for us and placed in the top eight. Emily Engen faced challenging competition in prose, receiving great critiques. Sierra Westrom had a strong showing in the drama category, placing eighth. We were excited to have two speakers qualify in final round in both the categories of extemporaneous reading and poetry. Brianna Kreft finished in second, qualifying for the state tournament, for the second year and Amber Schill finished a great high school speech career in sixth place, both earning medals in the ER category. Ryleigh Johnson earned poetry champion honors with a very strong finish and Kristen Gilbertson should be very proud of her fifth place medal in a talented crowd of poetry speakers.
