West Central Area Knights Boy's Basketball

2009-10 Preview:

WCA Outlook:
The Knights lost five quality seniors in Brent Anderson, Eric Erickson, Donald Lacey, Alan Strom, and Dylan Wevley.    However, the Knights return a solid core group including three starters Sam Richards, Tucker Belgum and Beau Kashmark, a key reserve from last year, Logan Pfingsten, and a successful group of players from the JV team last year.   The key players from that JV team that the Knights expect big contributions from are Bryan Barrera, Bryce Olson, Colton Blascyk, and Jake Boeddeker.

Richards (6’5 Sr.) will be a 3-year starter who comes into the season with 723 career points and 348 career rebounds.  Richards has averaged in double figures both of the past two season including 18 ppg and 9 rpg last year.

Another returning starter will be 6'2 Senior forward Tucker Belgum.  Belgum also played a key role as a sophomore so he has plenty of game experience.  He was the team's top defensive player a year ago.

The third returning starter is 6'3 Junior guard Beau Kashmark.    Kashmark averaaged 6 ppg, 4 rpg, and 2 apg last season.

Logan Pfingsten, 5'10 Senior guard, was a key reserve on last year's squad.  Pfingsten averaged 2 ppg, and 2 apg.   The Knights expect Pfingsten to step in and man the point guard position with his deft passing skills and improved shooting.

Bryan Barrera, 6'4 Senior, will provide another inside presence for the Knights.  Senior guard, Bryce Olson, and Junior guard, Colton Blascyk, were the leaders of last years successful JV team and are expected to provide the Knights with some good outside shooting ability and athleticism.   Junior Jake Boeddeker, 6'0 Junior,  is also expected to be a key player.  According to Knight Coach Kraig Hunter, Boeddeker is one of the most fundamentally sound players in the program and will be able to fill seveal roles.

Rounding out the players trying out for a varsity spot will be senior Devin Brakken, and juniors Christian Hammer, Carson Hunter, Neil Hyttsten, Cole Paulson, and Bryan Starner.
